Silvertip shark

Adults of Silvertip sharks are found on Fuvahmulah at great depths (around 30m), while younger individuals are found in shallow water and may even enter at Tiger point. They are very active, but timid and cautious.

Silvertip can swim both singly and in groups. They can often be seen together with schoolw of gray reef sharks.

They mainly hunt bony fish. They differ in their characteristic silvery fringes, which is why they are often confused with longimanus (oceanic whitetip), with gray reef and whitetip sharks.

A very curious kind of shark, can be close to divers. However, if you do not make sudden movements, they do not pose any danger.
